Traffic Law
The traffic law in New South Wales covers many offences that vary in seriousness. The penalties for traffic offences range from fines to lengthy periods of imprisonment. Conviction for a traffic offence may also result in the disqualification of your driver licence. The Crimes Act and Road Transport Act contain the more serious traffic offences, while the Road Rules contain offences deemed less serious that are predominantly dealt with by a ‘ticket.’
We provide advice on and appear in all types of traffic charges including:

Paying a fine or entering a guilty plea may result in you receiving demerit points. These demerit points could result in the loss of your driver licence for a period of time. If you elect to take a matter to court, it may result in receiving a more serious penalty. Obtaining legal advice will maximise your chances of obtaining leniency from the Court if you are found guilty, or assist you to defend the matter and be found not guilty.
If you are charged with a traffic offence or receive a traffic infringement, it is important that you seek the advice of an experienced criminal lawyer before paying the fine or electing to have the matter heard by a court.

Licence Disqualification & Suspension
The Road Transport Act deals with the disqualification of driver licences. It is important you are aware that if you enter a guilty plea or are found guilty of a major driving offence, you will be required to serve an automatic period of disqualification. These periods vary depending on the seriousness of the offence.
In some cases, police officers or Transport for NSW can issue you with a notice of suspension of your driver licence.
